Professional Synopsis
I am Amber Millenia Marte, a Joint MSW graduate from North Carolina A&T State University and UNC Greensboro, with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Media and Design from SUNY Old Westbury. I bring specialized experience in veteran housing, mental health, and community-based practice through my training with the VA Salisbury HUD-VASH program, where I provided housing first case management, addressed safety and inspection concerns, coordinated resources, and supported veterans with complex psychosocial needs. My research work on the Aging Farmers Mental Health Equity Project strengthened my skills in data collection, community engagement, and transforming lived experiences into actionable insights. I also served as Vice President and Recruitment Coordinator for the JMSW Student Organization and as a Graduate Student Association Senator, expanding my leadership capacity in collaboration, advocacy, and program coordination. I am committed to trauma informed, culturally responsive, and justice focused practice. I am seeking opportunities where I can continue serving vulnerable populations, support effective programming, and uphold the core values of ethical and equitable social work.

Background
I grew up in the Bronx, NY, where I witnessed how environment, limited resources, and community resilience shape a person’s mental health and life outcomes. My journey began at SUNY Old Westbury as a Psychology major and CASAC intern and Resident Assistant, where I developed early clinical skills in assessment, crisis awareness, and supporting individuals navigating trauma and substance use challenges. During graduate school, I completed an internship with UNCG Beyond Academics, where I supported students with IDD and autism and discovered how much I value advocating for students in higher education and helping them build confidence, independence, and personal goals. I loved this work and it strengthened my commitment to equity and inclusive support, yet I wanted to challenge myself clinically and expand my skills with more complex cases. This led me to the VA Salisbury HUD-VASH program, where I gained deeper experience providing trauma informed care, conducting psychosocial assessments, and supporting veterans facing significant emotional, housing, and systemic barriers. My experiences across higher education, disability support, and veteran services guide my belief that every person deserves safety, dignity, and accessible pathways to stability. My long-term vision is to build a family support center in the Bronx that delivers integrated clinical care, educational guidance, and resource navigation to empower single-parent households and transform community outcomes.
